THREE REASONS WHY RESUMES ARE OUTDATED

You thought writing your college essays was hard? Just wait until you have to write your resume. This has proven to be one of the most difficult tasks I’ve yet to face in my 25 years on earth. Not only do you have to clearly define everywhere you’ve worked, everything you’ve learned at your jobs, and all of your skills onto one page, but you have to do it in such a way that it catches a hiring manager’s eye. How is it with inventions like artificial intelligence, cars that drive themselves, Siri, and 3D printing, we still haven’t come up with a solution to the dreaded resume? Here are the three reasons why we think resumes should retire to greener pastures just like VHS and the floppy disk.

THEY’RE ONE-DIMENSIONAL

Resumes do not allow for any degree of interaction between the applicant and hiring manager. It’s a piece of paper with very vague insight into a person’s qualifications, and personality. Resumes don’t lend themselves to any degree of communication that is indescribably valuable when understanding an applicant.

BizDate offers a three-dimensional view into our users professional and personal interests. There is a space for a traditional resume, where users can include their work experience. Unlike traditional resumes, we also have a place for an elevator pitch, and our BizChat feature allows two people to communicate directly.

BORING BASICS

The reason why interviewers need to have first and second-round interviews in person is because they want to get to know you better on a more personal level. Sure, your resume might tell them you use photoshop, and how qualified you are for the job, but they can’t tell if you’re a good fit for the team unless they meet you. If your social and personal interests are inline with the company culture, your odds of getting the gig are way greater.

This is the reason that BizDate prioritizes your social interests when matching you with other users. When you’re able to connect on a more intimate level, you’re able to build a more successful business relationship in the long run.

DIGITAL = QUANTIFIABLE

Let’s face it, sometimes we don’t know what’s best for us. Those three doughnuts you ate this morning. The guy you dated in college that grew a goatee. Products, like BizDate, that apply a data-driven method to matching you with other users are designed for this reason. Trust the experts.
